I don't know if you've ever fired a fully automatic firearm, but the game does a good job of replicating what it feels like, albeit some guns have had their recoil artificially increased over and over for balance. Even with no training, a magdump on an M4 is pretty controllable after the first 5-10 shots, speaking from personal experience.
