The tank fish are in bags yes, but the bettas cup in the cups already and if one dies the employee (at least at the location I worked at) is supposed to remove the sticker and put it on the fridge or something for management to keep and report the fish that died. It's very easy for people to fall for these myths as they're still commonly spewed out by pet store employees. It doesn't make the aquarium or the fish keeper shitty.
