It may be helpful to someone else with the same problem. The KT 740, 7000 series motor is a V twin and the auto choke mechanism is quite different to the diagram in the link you sent me.( which is for a single, and has a vacuum actuator) The KT 740 does have a bi metallic spring but it is not adjustable.
