There's two ways you can link level manual or auto . Manual Is mostly used when they're are many fights but they're not guaranteed so you control and make sure you hit those saibamans ( rip saibamans) auto is when go to a stage with less fights but each fight is guaranteed auto is normally much quicker than manual.

Also, it's pretty good for link levelling, so you can both farm the blue gems and link level at the same time.
