Even though there technically isn't a stat requirement, it's suggested that you get intelligence to 10 - offensive pyromancies benefit greatly from the Bellowing Dragon Ring and you can only gain access to it via purchasing from Griggs, which requires that intelligence investment. First off, Dark Souls is balanced enough to put stat points into things that are otherwise useless and you can still finish the game just fine.
